What Do People Think of the New Set Foundations?

On Reddit, the MTG community has been abuzz with reactions. One user, u/CardSlinger92, expressed their enthusiasm: “Foundations feels like a breath of fresh air. The new mechanics are intriguing without being overly complex.” However, not everyone shares this sentiment. u/OldSchoolMage commented, “I’m worried about power creep. Some of these new cards seem a bit too strong for the current meta.”

Twitter has been equally active with players sharing their quick takes. @MTGPro tweeted, “Just cracked my first Foundations pack. The artwork is stunning! Kudos to the design team for raising the bar yet again.” On the other hand, @BudgetMTGPlayer expressed concerns about accessibility: “These new chase rares are going to be impossible to get without breaking the bank. #MTGFoundations”

The official Magic: The Gathering forums have seen more in-depth discussions. Forum user SpellslingerSupreme wrote a detailed post analyzing the set’s impact on various formats: “Foundations introduces some interesting options for Commander players. The new legendary creatures open up fresh archetypes that I’m excited to build around.” Another user, DraftMaster101, focused on the Limited environment: “The draft experience feels balanced. There’s a good mix of strategies, and I appreciate how the common and uncommon cards support multiple archetypes.”

Feedback from local game stores provides a glimpse into the grassroots reception of Foundations. Sarah, a store owner in Seattle, shared: “Our pre-release event was packed! Players were really excited to get their hands on the new cards. I overheard a lot of positive chatter about the set’s flavor and how it ties into the broader MTG storyline.”

However, not all local feedback has been positive. Tom, a regular at a Chicago game store, voiced his concerns: “Some of my friends are feeling a bit of product fatigue. With so many sets coming out, it’s hard to keep up. Foundations looks cool, but it’s coming on the heels of several other releases.”
